TPA was the first organization in the state of California that addressed the need to stabilize private practice. In the early 1990s it became apparent, that without a focused effort, independent private practice in California would simply fade away through attrition.
We believe that the profit motive of HMOs dilutes their ability to provide quality care. TPA hopes to maintain quality medical care, by helping preserve independent medical practices.
TPA-like organizations have been developing throughout California. This movement only works when there is direct local involvement. We will be happy to send you information, to help with your development of a similar organization. Please utilize the provided internet links.
Some have used our bylaws as a template. We are now networking with the California Association of American Physicians & Surgeons (CAAPS). They are in are in the process of forming a statewide coalition known as Independent Doctors of California.
